Install an IPTV player on Android TV, Google TV, NVIDIA Shield or an Android phone, add your XCodes IPTV login and tune it for smooth playback.

Android-based devices give you the widest choice of IPTV player apps, which is why many people consider an Android TV or Google TV box the best way to watch XCodes IPTV. The same steps work on phones and tablets.

Which devices this guide covers

  • Google TV streamers such as Chromecast with Google TV and Google TV Streamer
  • Android TV boxes such as NVIDIA Shield TV
  • TVs running Google TV or Android TV — common on Sony, TCL, Philips and some Hisense models
  • Android phones and tablets

Amazon Fire TV is also Android-based but uses its own app store — use the Firestick guide for those.

Step 1: Install a player app from Google Play

  1. On your TV, open Apps (or the Google Play Store on older Android TV devices).
  2. Search for "IPTV player" or the name of an app you already know.
  3. Confirm the description mentions Xtream Codes or M3U support and that the app was updated recently.
  4. Select Install, then Open.

On a Google TV device, you can also install apps from a phone or computer: open the Play Store website, sign in with the same Google account, select the app and choose your TV as the install target.

Popular choices on Android TV include TiviMate, IPTV Smarters and similar players — each has a different look and different free and paid features. If you choose TiviMate, our TiviMate setup guide covers its specific screens.

Step 2: Add your XCodes IPTV login

  1. Open the player and choose Add playlist, Add user or Login.
  2. Select Xtream Codes / Xtream API.
  3. Enter the server URL exactly as given, including http:// or https:// and the port (for example :8080).
  4. Enter your username and password — both are case-sensitive.
  5. Save, and let the app load channels, films, series and the TV guide.

Typing on a TV remote is slow. Many apps accept input from the Google TV app on your phone, which turns your phone into a keyboard for the TV. The login guide has a table of common errors if the login fails.

Step 3: Settings worth changing

These settings exist in most Android IPTV players, though names vary:

SettingRecommendedWhy
Player / decoderHardware decodingSmoother playback with less heat on most devices
Buffer sizeMedium or largeAbsorbs small network dips
EPG time offsetMatch your time zoneFixes guide times that are an hour out
Auto-update playlistOn, dailyPicks up line-up changes
Start-up channelLast channelFaster to resume watching

If you see a black screen with sound, or picture without sound, try switching between hardware and software decoding for that channel.

Step 4: Improve stability on Android TV

  • Use Ethernet where possible. Some Google TV streamers need a USB-C hub with an Ethernet port; NVIDIA Shield has Ethernet built in.
  • Set the display to match the content. In Android TV settings, enable "match frame rate" or "match content" options if your device offers them. This removes judder on 50 Hz European broadcasts and 60 Hz US ones.
  • Free up storage. Devices with 8 GB of storage fill quickly; uninstall apps you don't use and clear player caches occasionally.
  • Avoid running two players at once. Each holds an open connection and uses memory.

Using XCodes IPTV on an Android phone or tablet

The process is the same: install a player from Google Play, choose Xtream Codes login, enter your details. On mobile data, lower the stream quality in the app if it has the option, as HD video uses a lot of data. Remember that the phone counts as a connection while it plays.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a VPN to use IPTV on Android?

No. A VPN is not required to use a legitimately licensed IPTV service. Do not use a VPN to get around geographic restrictions set by rights holders.

Can I install player apps that aren't on Google Play?

Android allows installing apps from other sources, but only do so from the developer's official website, and never install modified "cracked" versions. Google Play apps are scanned by Google Play Protect.

My Google TV says the app isn't compatible. Why?

Some Play Store apps are built only for phones. Search for a player designed for TV — it will have a TV-friendly layout and remote control support.

Which Android device is best for 4K?

Choose a device that supports 4K HDR output and hardware decoding of HEVC (H.265), and pair it with a connection that can sustain 25 Mbps or more. See internet speed for IPTV.
